Happy Atari Day!

Congrats to  Nolan Bushnell and Ted Dabney!  40 years later.  I wish I still had that original home console pong machine.  It didn’t make it from one of the moves as a kid but I still own two Atari 2600.  The original model and the Sears model.  Great stuff.  Still works to this day.  They don’t build um like they use to.

Sega Genesis Control Pad Complete in box!

Sega Genesis Control Pad mint in boxSega Genesis Control Pad complete in box!  To me this always look like something “Batman” would us.    What a great controller.  It broke free from the boxy controllers in the consoles a generation before the Genesis.  The curved bottom even gave it a nice grip =)

Even Sega Retro agrees with me as I quote them:

“Mega Drive controllers are notable for being one of the first control pads to be ergonomically designed for the user’s hands. Though improvements were made in the coming years, previous systems had cornered edges with their controllers, meaning they were often uncomfortable to hold after several hours of play. The Mega Drive controller is rounded, and has its buttons placed in easier to reach positions.”

I totally agree.  I notice even the consoles of today such as Xbox 360, PS3 and even the Pro Wii U controller have that kind of style today.  You can actually still buy this controller today.  Click here to see prices but I am sure they are all used and not as in mint condition as the one I am lucky to own  =)

Ed Heemskerk gets a World Record after all! Qbert Record Setter

Ed Heemskerk qbert world record attempt goes 56 hours for a world record

Click Here for Full Article from Record Setters

Check out the link above from Record Setters for full article.  Also make sure you Click the Arrow button UP!  To help him get more exposure!

I watched the live feed around the 1st hour and it was awesome.  Ed was on and talking to everyone that came into the chat room.  It felt like I was right there in his living room.  Who would of known that a Thunderstorm would be the “kill screen” 56.50 hours later.    Still with Mother Nature against him.  Record Setters claimed Ed’s action as the “Longest Attempt At A World Record Cut Short By An Act Of Nature”

Pretty awesome stuff in my book.  Great stuff and Congratulations to Ed Heemskerk on the Qbert  World Record.

Retro Pinball’s “King Of Diamonds” video game play by Nick at Arcade Hunters

What a concept huh?  A brand new 1967 pinball machine?  Say wtf?  Yes a company has been developed back in 2007 and they make brand new old pinball machines. I know it sounds like an oxymoron but it is true. The company is called Retro Pinball.  Their first attempt is at the 1967 classic King of Diamonds.  It is a reproduction of the classic Gotliebs pinball machine.

Nick @ www.arcadehunters.com takes us through a walk through and game play of this awesome replication of a 1967 classic.  Watch the video above.  Great job Nick with the a guest appearance from Tim aka Jumblejunkie from the OKS (operation kill screen) podcast.

Wreck it Ralph! Official video game play online!

http://disney.go.com/wreck-it-ralph/#

The link above is a direct link to the online video game from the movie “Wreck it Ralph!”.  The actual game is called “Fix it Felix Jr”  Fix it Felix Jr with Wreck it Ralph

The object of the game is to use the arrow keys to move Felix aka “the good guy” with the direction keys on your keyboard and to fix the windows and what not Wreck It Ralph destroyed.  To fix the windows press the space bar.   Hitting the space bar helps move Felix’s hammer.   The first two levels are pretty easy then it gets really hard seeing Birds get introduced into the game.  You have to avoid the birds.  For a bonus power up you have to get the pies and people (i think they are people) that appear in an open window.

Concept of the game is easy to pick up but hard to master.  Kind of like the Arcade games back in 1981 =)

Enjoy

Wii U for YOU? Photos of black system and Controller here!

Wii U Black Controller and System

Well at E3 2012 the Wii U black console and controller was out for display.  It has that piano black look to it.  So visually it looks great.  The right right analog seems to be in a weird spot but I am sure it will work well and Nintendo has a reason for it.   Will you be getting a Wii U?    Nintendo doesn’t ever seem to do anything wrong with their hardcore fans.  I am a fan of Nintendo but I am also a fan of everything.  I don’t place heavy judgments on things till I actually get to play the games on it.  It definitely looks interesting to me.  But I probably won’t be picking this up at launch.  I fell for that trick way to many times over.  I’ll wait till they have something worth playing and that everyone is saying is a “must” have.

Oh btw I know I am more retro than new stuff but I do like to mix it up.  I really do love all the new consoles as well so just as a disclaimer.  ” I love all games so don’t judge me”   =)

Doomed from the start? Doom 3 BFG Announcement Trailer

Well we all know what BFG from the Original Classic Doom stands for but Doom 3 BFG might as well stand for BFD (big f-ing deal).  Time and Time again Video games are coming back from the “so called” dead and being recycled and reused to bring back some gamers of yester-years.  Is it working?  Ummm I don’t know.  Those gamers seem to have moved onto either ipad touch games or taking care of their children, mortgage, jobs, etc.  There seems to be a lull in video games right now.  So much still to play but kind of all the same old same old.  I mean if someone wanted to play Doom couldn’t they just play the original one?  I know people that still are playing it.  I must say for the time I enjoyed the first Doom.  I didn’t playing it on PC but I played it on the Sega Genesis 32x.  It worked out to be pretty fun and still gave me enough motion sickness to leave me dizzy for weeks.  Well with all that being said the Trailer for this game looks pretty damn good.  They should try and release it around Halloween or something seeing this game has more of a horror factor to it than the original one.   Will this be one your pick up?  Comment below and let me know your thoughts.  I would wait till this one hit the bargain bin IMO.
